Real effort and sales numbers for being an Indie

Postby ThomasH » Fri May 20, 2016 4:41 pm

Josh Ge of Cogmind just posted a postmortem on his one year of sales:

3 years effort, $62k.
That about sums up the indie life folks! He's making less than minimum wage!

I find this image very telling because it matches my experience: after coding, community management is the second biggest time sink on the project. Just a few minutes ago I finished writing a blog for Gamasutra that took me an unbelievable 8 hours to complete. Is it worth it? Am I insane? Shouldn't I work on the game more? Well, as he says, it takes time away from the game but if you don't sell any copies then it is hardly worthwhile.
